Michael S. Milnarik was born in New York City and grew up in the small town of Stillwater, Pennsylvania. He is currently the founder, president and senior booking agent of MSM Music Service, a company based in Boston, Massachusetts that researches performance opportunities, develops artists, negotiates performer fees and manages high level musical talent. He is also the owner and manager of TubaStudio.com, a web store that carries sheet music, compact discs, instruments and accessories. TubaStudio.com was opened to help other tuba players by offering free resources, making commonly used educational materials and supplies readily available, and providing quality pre-owned instruments.
Mr. Milnarik graduated from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelors of Music Performance degree in 1993. Self motivated from a young age, he began to develop and test his skills as a manager, finding performance opportunities for his college brass quintet. This experience led him to Boston University, where he received his Masters of Music Performance degree in 1995. Boston opened the doors to new performing and management opportunities. Mr. Milnarik has performed with many of New England's top orchestras, chamber groups and jazz ensembles. The culmination of this experience led to the founding of MSM Music Service in 1995 and TubaStudio.com in 2003.
As a performer Mr. Milnarik has had the opportunity to perform with some of the country's leading musical organizations and artists including the Innovata Brass, Keys & Brass, Brass Sect, Portland Brass, GuiTUBAtar, Key West Symphony Orchestra, Boston Ballet Orchestra, Portland Symphony, New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra, Albany (NY) Symphony, Jazz Composers Alliance Orchestra and many other high caliber organizations. He has also been heard on CNN, Public Radio, KISS 108 FM (Boston), and on numerous recordings.
Mr. Milnarik has a passion for providing direction to young musicians so that they can achieve their own personal goals and dreams. His unique performance background, management skills and creative teaching abilities, has driven him to be one of the most sought after teachers in the Northeast. Young tuba and euphonium players that study with Mr. Milnarik learn the techniques involved to improve their performance level and the skills necessary to survive in today's highly competitive performance and educational environments. He is the Tuba/Euphonuim faculty of Tufts University, and University of Massachusetts Lowell,. He also has private studios based in Beverly and Lexington, Massachusetts and Gorham, Maine.
In addition to his busy performance and teaching schedule Mr. Milnarik is the director of the Northeast Tuba Euphonium Workshop (N.E.T.E.W.), has arranged numerous works for brass quintet, and has served on the board of the New England Philharmonic as both a board member and as president of the orchestra.
Mr. Milnarik is a Yamaha Performing Artist and Clinician.
