Bio Sketch

Dr. Hirschel joined the faculty at UML in 1998 after teaching for over 20 years at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. Before starting his career in education, Dr. Hirschel worked as the Criminal Justice Coordinator for the Erie County New York Department of Anti-Rape and Sexual Assault and as a house-parent in half way houses both in England and the USA. He has a law degree from Cambridge University in England and an M.A. and Ph.D. in criminal justice from the State University of New York at Albany. Dr. Hirschel's research interests, and publications, have covered a wide range of criminal justice topics including domestic violence, search and seizure, comparative criminal justice, burglary, and drugs and crime. His major focus is on victims of crime. Dr. Hirschel currently serves as Coordinator of the graduate program in criminal justice.
