Bio Sketch

With a dual career as a performer and conductor, David J. Martins balances orchestral and chamber venues with an active teaching and conducting schedule.  He is the music director of the Boston University Wind Ensemble, Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble and the Lowell Summer Concert Band. For ten years, Mr. Martins was the music director of the Metropolitan Wind Symphony, which under his direction was selected to perform at the National Conference of the Association of Concert Bands in 1994.  During the past several years, he has been in demand as a guest conductor, conducting festival ensembles throughout the eastern United States.  Since the summer of 1999, Mr. Martins has served on the faculty of the Boston University Tanglewood Institute as director of wind activities for the Young Artist Orchestra.

He is a member of the Rhode Island Philharmonic and Boston Classical Orchestra and appears frequently with the New Hampshire Symphony Orchestra, ProArte Chamber Orchestra, Monadnock Music Festival and Alea III. Martins also has toured abroad extensively.  Additionally, he can be heard on orchestral and chamber recordings on the CRI, Koch, Titanic, Gasparo and Albany labels.  Mr. Martins is a Boosey and Hawkes/Buffet artist clinician.
