
Patricia Lane was honored as valedictorian with the distinction of the graduating History major with the highest GPA (3.975).
Heather Makrez honored with a History Dept book award for her impressive GPA of 3.930 and a career of service to UML students and faculty, including UML Student Trustee.
Kate Smith was honored with a History Dept book award for an equally impressive GPA of 3.859, and we wish her good luck with her pursuit of a PhD in History.
Alexandra Horelick (Class of 2008) was selected as the recipient of the O'Leary Scholarship award for 2006-07. A renewable award worth $1,000 per year, it is given to a sophomore and a junior History major by vote of the department faculty.
The Dept is proud to recognize the accomplishments of these and other students in our Department. Other notable plans for the graduating class: Patty Lane and Erin Clarke will begin their UML M.Ed. program immediately upon graduation in order to become schoolteachers. Laura Brunelle will pursue a Master's in Public Policy at the University of London beginning Fall 2005. Heather Makrez will continue her graduate studies in RESD at UML, and plans to eventually pursue a Ph.D. or Ed.D. Kate Smith will pursue a Ph.D. in History beginning in 2007. Spencer Breunig hopes to attend law school beginning in 2007, while Elys Rodriguez anticipates matriculating in a graduate English program at the University of Arizona in 2007. Nick Rand and JT Anderson remain unsure of their precise plans for next year; Jessica Pappathan will begin working full-time for the Currier Museum in Manchester NH in June 2006.
