Check-In Information for Band Camp


Check in at Concordia Hall, UML South, the dorm for band camp at 5:30 p.m on Sunday, July 12, 2009 The following is a general overview of events/details to consider.

Schedule: 
Check-in on Sunday, July 12, between 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. in the lobby of Concordia Hall, South Campus. Student staff members will be there to assist you. Rooms are pre-assigned. Please do not arrive early.


The first meeting of all members and parents will be held in the Concordia Hall Lobby at 6:15 p.m. and will last approximately 20 minutes.  Band camp ends on Saturday, July 18 with a one-hour 11:30 a.m. concert followed by a cookout. All family, friends and  band directors are invited to attend the concert and cookout. Please let us know at check -in if you and/or guests will be attending.

Instruments/Concert Seating
Please bring the instrument you intend to play with you. Percussionists should bring mallets/sticks in percussion stick bag.

If you do not own your own instrument or can not bring one such as a piano or percussion instrument, one will be provided by the band camp staff.

Auditions for seating placement will take place Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. Students must prepare the pieces that will be enclosed in a mailing.

Jazz Band
If you would like to be in one of the jazz bands, please bring a lead sheet. Ask your band director if you are unfamiliar with the term.  (basically a head with changes)

Details and Reminders
Meals are provided, with the exception of Sunday night. If you want snacks, feel free to bring them.

Housing (bed/linen/pillow) is provided. Bring fan, cards, games and warm sweatshirt.  The concert hall is air conditioned.

Dress comfortably, and plan on both cold air conditioning and hot weather. Some suggestions/reminders: sneakers, concert dress blue jeans or dark blue pants, wind breaker, something warm to wear in air-conditioning, sunglasses, water bottle, swim suit (pool available after an evening session), towels, soap, book, personal items. alarm clock, radio, some spending money, instrument. pencils, small notebook, valve oil and mutes.

Instrument lockers are available, but you should bring a combination lock.

Money is not necessary, but there is a snack shop and there will be items available for purchase.

Emergency
In the event of an emergency: During the day, students can be reached through the Department of Music at (978) 934-3850.  Please let them know that your child is a student in the UML Band Camp currently taking place. Instrument identification helps!

During the evening hours, students can be reached at Concordia Hall through the Campus Police at (978) 934-2398. There are also public phones in Concordia Hall and Durgin Hall. Students are welcome to bring cell phones, but are not able to use them during rehearsals or classes.
