MBA
> Program Description
American business in the 21st century
faces a very different internal and external environment from that which
existed in previous decades. This environment can be characterized by
rapid technological change, increased international competitiveness
in manufacturing and other sectors, and a labor force which expects a
higher quality of work life than did previous generations of employees.
These changes directly affect the health and vitality of any region's
economy.
With this understanding as a driving
force, College of Management Graduate Programs prepare graduates to become
leaders in wide variety of commercial, industrial, and governmental settings.
They enable students to develop integrative skills in problem solving
and decision making, as well as to relate these skills to all functional
areas of business.
Part Time and Full
Time Study
Students are admitted on either full time or part time basis. Courses
meet during the evening hours beginning at 6 PM.
For an MBA student full-time load is 9
credits. Degree requirements usually are completed in 2 years. Part-time
students are expected to graduate within 5 years.
Graduate Assistantships
A limited number of teaching and research assistantship are available
to qualified full-time students. The primary purpose of these awards is
to provide promising students with financial assistance to offset the
costs of full-time graduate study. They also benefit students by providing
opportunity to build knowledge and skill by working closely with the faculty
members. Assistantships are awarded competitively based on the student's
academic record and prior work experience. As part of the assessment,
consideration will be given to the potential contribution an assistant
can make to the program and College in the areas of instructional assistance
and research.
Computer Facilities
All students have access to extensive computer facilities both
inside and outside the College. Numerous IBM-compatible computers are
available in the COM computer laboratory. Also available is University's
Digital Vax 8650. Use of this equipment is assumed as a part of course
work and in conducting research.
