Current
Research:
- Currently
serving as co-investigator, genetic
counselor, genetics consultant, and
anatomy and physiology educator for the
Lowell Southeast Asian Birthing and
Infancy (SABAI) project. This grant is
federally funded by the Department of
Health and Human Services. Also funded by
the Massachusetts Health Research
Institute, the Massachusetts Department of
Public Health, and the Lowell Community
Health Center. Over the first six years,
the grant money totaled 1.3 million
dollars. A center has been established to
provide the Lowell Southeast Asian
community with prenatal, perinatal,
genetic, medical and other health care
services.
- In
conjunction with the directors of the
SABAI project, now involved in the writing
of a third 3-year grant, to total about
one million dollars. As a result, a
thalassemia screening program, which is
already in its embryonic stages, will be
established, for which I will continue to
serve in the role of genetic counselor and
genetics educator.
