This course is required of chemistry majors and addresses ethical, regulatory, and environmental aspects of their profession. Students are exposed to a wide range of research integrity issues that include TSCA (Toxic Substance Control Act), SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and quality management. Compliance issues include an overview of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), as well as an introduction to patent law. The importance of maintaining integrity in their discipline is emphasized, and case studies are presented for study and discussion.
