About the Advising Center

The Centers for Learning Advising Center provides students with the information and advice they need to make informed decisions about their academic career. Staff members provide ISIS support to students and faculty, and advise students on majors, careers, study skills and fulfilling University academic requirements, including general education requirements.

The center is a comprehensive resource providing four primary services for both day and evening students.

First, it is a central clearinghouse for information on all University academic programs and policies. Students drop by the center to consult with experienced staff members to develop educational plans that build upon their strengths and interests. Students may visit the center to seek advice on courses, majors, degrees and certificate programs.

Second, the center provides a wide range of additional services and information to students about the Study Abroad Program, the Goler Program.

Third, the Advising Center serves as a support center to students and faculty helping them to utilize the ISIS system effectively. The Intercampus Student Information System (ISIS) allows students to register for courses; check their grades, financial information and degree progress; file for graduation; and much more. Faculty members use the system to view their class rosters, find their permission numbers, view their advisees and enter grades.

Fourth, the center hosts advising training for faculty, staff and peer advisors each semester.

The Advising Center also plays a vital role in the University orientation program for new students and transfers. Staff members meet with all orientation groups to explain the basics of University academic policies.

Workshops and drop-in advising services are offered to all undergraduate students about general education requirements, University policies and procedures, and career opportunities with special emphasis on advising undeclared students and those in transition from one major to another.

Students may access information about requirements for major and minor fields of study by going to the UML Catalog.
