Communications
Printer Friendly
It is impossible to separate any one function of the Public Affairs Office from all its others because they are interrelated and overlapping. Communications is the arm of the office that coordinates everything using a "beat" system.
The office has an online form on which to submit calendar announcements. Story ideas can be submitted directly to news@uml.edu. In addition to these media, faculty, staff and students should also submit messages to UML Today for daily notices.
What We Do
Below is an overview of opportunities available for distributing information.
UML Today
UML Today is an intranet news and information website for faculty/staff and students. Don’t wait for the daily e-mail reminder. Check the site – or make it your home page – to get all the latest campus news and announcements. The website is updated each weekday. Submit information in the following categories:
- Department News (not of general interest)
- On Campus (general interest events on campus)
- In the Region (off-campus events of interest to University community)
- Milestones (births, deaths, weddings, etc.)
In the News (published news articles compiled by the Public Affairs Office), From the Top (announcements from the Chancellor and other senior administrators) and Athletics (submitted by Athletics Department) items are also listed on the site.
For policies and procedures related to UML Today, please see Web Services.
Calendar
Post items of general interest that are open to the public in the events calendar (on the top navigation bar on the main UMass Lowell website). Submit your event (complete with description, date, time, location and contact information) to the online form and it will be posted in the campus-wide calendar. Please submit at least 24 hours before the event.
eNews/NewsLine/Alumni Magazine
eNews is an online news site updated weekly with the latest news from campus, research and scholarship.
The office also writes, designs and produces three UMass Lowell Alumni Magazines each year, working in partnership with the Office of University Advancement. The audience for this publication is primarily alumni, but also includes faculty, staff and an off-campus audience.
NewsLine is a four-page print publication used to convey major news, projects and plans of the campus to a variety of external and internal audiences including community, business and government leaders and major donors. It is published monthly, except July and August.
Items for eNews, NewsLine and the Alumni Magazine are generated by a staff of writers in the Public Affairs Office who work on a “beat” system. Contact the appropriate writer to arrange for a story about a given program, faculty member, student or event.
To submit a story for consideration in eNews, you can contact the appropriate beat person or email news@uml.edu.
